Christmas

I can't believe that Christmas is just around the corner! We are so unprepared this year but that's okay, it's not what's important. Maya doesn't know what's going on yet so we can take advantage of that. We don't have a tree up but I am hoping we can go to Home Depot and pick one out this weekend. Last year we got one there and the needles fell off so easily, it made such a mess of our house. Hopefully this year we can get a good one.

Things are good here in MI. I talked Nick into going to Utah with me in January! YAY. I am getting a bit anxious about the plane trip with our little munchkin but maybe she will just sleep the whole time...? Wishful thinking. I am just so excited to see my family and to spend time with everyone. We are going to meet up with Nick's mom, brothers, and our new niece Leahla. She was born just a couple weeks after Maya. I am excited to see her. I am really excited to see my sister and brother too. It has been a really long time since the whole family has been together. Usually I just go out to Utah alone.

Nick's camping trip went well last week, he survived but said it was pretty cold out there. They had tacos on Friday night then in the morning they had scrambled eggs, bacon, and oatmeal. All of his clothes smelled like a campfire and it took 2 washings to get the smell out. He seems excited about the next camp out though, he's already thinking of different things they can do so the outings are more organized and fun.

The kitties, Pippen and Penelope, are still driving me crazy! Pippen gets really attention-hungry in the evening when I am trying to put the baby to sleep. He will come into her nursery with me and meow really loud and rub up against my legs. Penelope gets into that mood around now, it's 1:00 EST, and she is following me everywhere and trying to get on the keyboard. I love them both and I know they aren't getting the attention they used to get, but it still annoys me! I will try and be more patient with them.

The best news of this week! Last night my friend April and I went visiting teaching and she told me I should try swaddling Maya before nursing her at night then put her in the bassinet. I nursed her at 9:30 and she fell asleep around 9:45. I put her in the bassinet at 10:00 and she woke up briefly, I thought "well it was a good try" because normally she would start screaming. I kept rubbing her belly and stroking her face and she fell back asleep! She didn't last all night but she was in there for 2 1/2 hours :) That is a big improvement. Her naps have been harder. Today she has been really fussy unless I have the vacuum on. She will fall asleep with that on but give her a nice quiet, comfortable room and she is up in seconds! Go figure.
