Movie day, ballet, and the lake

I'm really trying to catch up on all that we've been up to! I'm almost there...

We took the kids to see Cars 2 a few weekends ago. As most of you know, Josh loves anything that moves, but he especially loves cars. He is always so good to sit and watch the whole movie. We got there pretty early to get good seats and to get our yummy snacks. We found out that Josh can have the popcorn minus the butter you put on after purchasing it. So we gave him a cup full before Nick dumped the good stuff on top. Josh was extremely happy!

It was a really cute movie. We all liked it a lot.

Maya started her ballet class and is enjoying it so far. She is taking the class with her best friend Zoe.

I have to admit, she makes a beautiful ballerina with that dark hair and skin. She could use a little work in the whole "being graceful" area - she usually ends up falling to the floor, but that will come with time.

This past weekend we decided to take the kids canoeing. Nick is determined to make our kids enjoy the outdoors and to not be wimps, like me. So far, Josh and Maya are very scared of any type of bug (even fruit flies), hate to get dirty, and freak out if the weather is too hot or too cold. He's got his work cut out for him! I was on board with the canoeing trip though, and want our kids to experience different things, so we were off. Right when we place Josh in the canoe he completely goes ballistic, is afraid that he's going to fall in the water and wants Nick to hold him and paddle us at the same time. It was going to be an interesting morning! Finally, Josh calms down and Maya is content too. We paddle out a few hundred feet when Maya starts asking when are we going to go back to the beach and play with the other kids? Wow. Classic. We told her to pretend she was Rapunzel from Tangled and that we were looking for the lanterns in the sky. That helped a little. She also saw a dead fish floating on top of the water which kept her interest for a bit. She had a lot of questions about it.

Maya loved the water! She also enjoyed looking for "lake shells".

Joshy got a little burnt out so he sat under a tree with me for awhile. I love this sweet face!

After the canoe trip we let the kids play in the water for awhile. I wish we would have been more prepared with, you know, food, more water, hats, etc. (the essentials!) so we could have spent more time there, but it will definitely be something we'll do again in the future. We really are so fortunate to have so many lakes around us!
