Maya riding her bike and other random stuff

Maya got a new bike this month. We purchased a larger bike that didn't have training wheels and sort of forced her into learning how to ride. At first she was pretty timid, but she caught on faster than we thought! She started on a Tuesday and practiced every night that week and by Saturday she was a pro! Now she wants to go on bike rides constantly and loves the one on one time she gets with Nick.

It's so fun watching your kids tackle challenges and learn something new!

Josh has really enjoyed riding his bike this year, too. He's such a cutie. It's funny because he is pretty shy around strangers and big groups of people, but this kid is one of the funniest boys I know. He is SUCH a little character. For the longest time he would come into the house with his helmet on (but unbuckled) and he'd say, "Mom? Can you unbuckle my helmet? I want to ride my bike." Buckle = unbuckle, well up until Maya corrected him. He is always saying or doing something funny. Last week I was in the front yard watering the flowers. I left the kids in the back for a few minutes and Maya said she'd keep an eye on them. I hear M yell, "Josh! Stop spraying my yearbook! I just got this yesterday and I don't want you to ruin it!" Then it stopped for awhile. All of a sudden I hear Cora screaming so loud and hard, so I rush back there to find her soaking wet from head to toe. Josh is standing about 5 feet away from her with the hose on and in his hands. I couldn't believe he would spray her! I told him he needed to go inside and have time-out to which he completely flipped out jumping up and down, so I sprayed him in the back with the hose. I didn't even think about it, I just did it. He yelled, "You are the worstest mom EVA!" I couldn't help but laugh as he stormed into the house. Poor Cora was crying the entire time. So, I've been keeping my eye on him when he gets close to the baby because he's been a little more sneaky lately....

Our baby girl is 10 months old! I can't believe it. In less than 2 months she will be having her first birthday. This year has flown by and I'm so sad that she is growing up. She is the sweetest baby and rarely puts up a fuss. She currently has a small problem with new faces and gets a little scared if we are out of sight. I know it's just the age and it will pass soon, I hope. She is not interested in crawling at all. In fact she hates tummy time and will just roll over or put her head down on the carpet when we try to practice. She is scooting backwards though. I think it has a lot to do with her personality and the fact that she is baby #3, there is constantly commotion around her and people just bring her stuff to play with when she makes a noise. I wouldn't feel the need to move either if people catered to me all day! She still has no teeth. We love this baby so much.

9 month appointment - 18 pounds 8 ounces, 27 inches long

Maya's class recently started working on writing letters. I found this little note in her backpack from a boy in her class. Her face went bright red when she sounded out what it said. We think she's pretty "qut" too!

She also started soccer this spring. It has been entertaining to go and watch her every Saturday morning. She is becoming more aggressive and is starting to understand the game a little more, but mostly I think she was excited to go and get a pink soccer ball and shin guards. The first week she played was hilarious. She just stood there and had no clue what to do. There were tons of kids on the field and it was pretty chaotic so she stayed far away from the ball. This past week she kicked the ball at least 3 times though. She's catching on! Josh likes to come and watch as long as I pack snacks for him. I asked him if he wants to play soccer and he responded, "No. I like to watch and eat snacks instead." My little couch potato.

A few weeks ago Nick took Josh on a Father/Son camp out. It was funny because Josh kept saying things like, "I'm sorry you have to stay at home and be bored with mom, Maya. Me and dad are going camping and we get to roast marshmallows. Sorry...." You could clearly see that he was NOT sorry about any of it. Anyway, they had a great time setting up camp, roasting marshmallows, and spending time together. Nick said around 9:30pm Josh looked like he was going to pass out because he was so tired. He finally asked Nick if they could please go to bed. So unlike him! So they went to bed and I guess he slept great through the night. Cute little camper. My favorite part about this whole weekend was when one of our friends at soccer the next day had this conversation with Nick. It will help you understand how much my husband keeps up with football....he really doesn't care and I LOVE that about him.

Friend: "So you went to the campout last night? Was Ziggy there? Is he going to move into our ward (church)?"
Nick: "Huh? Who is Ziggy?"
Friend: "He's the BYU football player who just got drafted by the Detroit Lions."
Nick: "Oh....well there was a tall black dude there. We were making pancakes together this morning."
Friend: "DUDE! That was probably Ziggy."

I could be off a few words here and there, but you get the point. Still laughing about it. I love him! Give him a mountain and a bike and he's all over that, but he has no clue about what's going on in the sports world.

That night I took Maya and Cora on our first ever "girls only" date. Maya wanted to go out to dinner at a buffet because she remembered going to a buffet with Grandma Vickie when we visited them in February. The buffets in Michigan are kind of gross though so i wasn't looking forward to it. Plus, I had a baby to carry around while I tried to make a plate for each of us. Maya ended up being a big helper and was fine making her own plate and carrying it back, so I didn't have to worry about her. The food was okay...my dates were super cute! I loved how Maya was so amazed that she could eat whatever she wanted. She had her eye on the dessert table from the second we walked in and was so happy that they had cotton candy and a chocolate fountain to dip food in. Yikes. A lot of sugar! Oh well. We went and picked up some nice flowers for our porch and went home to watch "Alice in Wonderland" after Coco went to bed. After that we had a sleepover in my room which rarely happens because M loves to be super close all night and is very sensitive to noises. She just drives me crazy! Love her though.

MY FAMILY ROCKS!!!
