On Friday Nick and I were talking about how we never do anything fun so we decided that on Saturday we would make the hour drive south and go to the Toledo Zoo. We went there last year for our anniversary and it was so much fun. The weather was perfect and we had were able to go and have a good time with our friends, Jordan and Chandra (& their cute twin boys) and Travis and Kassie (& their cute girls).
I couldn't believe how much Maya enjoyed all of the animals and how excited she got when she'd see something new. Most of her favorite books have to do with animals so you can imagine how amazed she was to see all of the animals we read about ALIVE and right before her eyes. Her favorite was definitely the Polar Bear exhibit, they were really active and wrestling with one another in the water. She also had a good time in the petting zoo where about 15-20 small goats would run back and forth in a fenced off area while all of the young children would chase them around. Our little Maya has no fear! They all came charging at her and all she did was flinch a bit then she started laughing like crazy.
I shouldn't say we never do anything fun , we try as hard as we can to make time for each other as a family (and a couple). It's especially important to both Nick and me that we make an effort to do different things with Maya so we will always have the memories. Nick couldn't get over how much fun Maya was at the zoo - he kept mentioning it all night and the next day too. Sometimes we're just afraid to do things because of the fear we have of public embarrasment - let's just say our daughter can throw a pretty wicked temper tantrum.
Anyway, we had a blast and can't wait for our next visit to the zoo.
Today was also a fun day...wow, so many in one week. :) This morning we got up and headed for IHOP for breakfast. (P.S. My budget went out the window this weekend...we ate out a lot!) Then we went Mountain Bike shopping for me. We checked out REI and Dick's Sporting Goods and decided to go with a bike from REI. We also picked up a Disney Princess Helmet for Maya. We hooked up her trailer and headed for the Ward Picnic. It was SOOO hot! My arms were fried but at least I got some color. The ride wasn't too bad on the way over but on the way home I about died! I had just played softball in the hot sun and ate too much junk food so that ride seemed to last forever! We got home and we all played for awhile in the sprinklers. There is nothing better than spending time with N and M, I love my family!!!
I will add my pictures tomorrow. I just spent an hour uploading them to slide.com and they all vanished so I need a break from the computer!
