Maya at her 1st birthday
...and at her 2nd Birthday, our little lady definitely has the fork down now.
We had so much fun over the past week deciding what we should do for Maya's 2nd Birthday. Last year my parents were in town the weekend before so we didn't feel the need to do anything else. On her actual birthday it was just the 3 of us and it was kind of sad. So this year we had a little party with some of our friends and Maya's little friends. Before the big day we went to Party City and Maya got to pick out her plates, cups, napkins, etc. and of course she chose Mickey Mouse, her current obsession. (I keep telling Nick we need to take her to Disneyland to show her where Mickey lives...he doesn't buy it.) She was so cute grabbing all of her stuff at the store, it cracked us up. When she was done choosing she put everything in her little basket and put her hand up to Nick and said, "Come on daddy, let's go" and they started walking off. I don't know how to explain it, she didn't say it in a demanding way it was this little sweet voice. I think Nick was really touched because he looked like he was going to cry. They love each other so much.
Anyway, we had so much fun at the party. Nick went camping a few weeks ago and when he got home he set up the tent in the garage to let it air out. It was still set up in there so we decided to move it to the grass and fill it with another one of Maya's obsessions, balloons. All of the kids seemed to enjoy playing in there. Here is Nick before the party filling up balloons.
We ordered way too much food and the cake was huge too. We will have pizza and cake in our fridge for a week, at least. After eating we had a water balloon fight and then the adults just talked (& played frisbee) while the kids played and had fun. One funny/sad thing that happened was when everyone arrived and Nick and I were running in and out of the house getting food, drinks, etc. we both forgot about Maya and where she was. I finally came outside to look for her and I could hear weeping on the side of the house. I went over there and she was standing right up to the house and she was covering her eyes up. I called her name and she looked up at me and started running toward me. I don't know what happend, I think maybe she got scared because she couldn't find us. I just picked her up and held her and wiped away her tears, she is so sweet. I can't believe she is going to be 2 on Tuesday!
Thanks to everyone who came and had fun with us! Here are some pictures:

Thanks for inviting us! You did a great job with the party - the activities, the food, etc. - it was wonderful. It's too bad Benjamin was having a rough day and we had to leave early. The water balloon fight sounds like fun! I know Benjamin still had a good time, though.
Happy Birthday! When I saw you guys at the funeral a few weeks ago I just couldn't believe how much Maya had grown and the things that she can now do. She is such a cutie!
It was fun to get together and Mya is just the cutest little thing. Thanks for inviting us!!
