California, part one

We made it home...all of us! At times on our trip we would've liked to leave a feisty little girl behind and just return with our quiet and calm little boy. Just kidding, there were good times and bad but overall our trip was good.

We got on the plane early Wednesday morning and after sitting on the runway for ALMOST AN HOUR we finally got up in the air. Detroit is apparently going through some runway construction so they only had one of them operating. In preparation for our trip I had wrapped up a few things for Maya to open in case we got really desperate and needed to distract her. So at this point, we were already pulling stuff out of our goody bag because she was getting antsy. I was really scared! But she quickly turned things around and settled in to a movie and lots of junk food for the next 4 hours. Josh also got an A+ for being a little angel on the plane.

We spent the first 9 days with Nick's family and had a great time catching up. They are all great cooks so on most days we would have one big thing in the morning then we'd come home and relax for a few hours before feasting on whatever they would make! It was nice.

Here's what we did:

Wednesday we stayed home and Maya was showered with gifts from Gramma Pat and Papa Scott. We played with her new toys and got settled in. Nick and I stayed in his sister's room (Jenna), we had a connecting bathroom which was perfect for Josh's portacrib. Then Maya stayed in their office which has a super nice pull-out couch, her room looked like a hotel suite. Nick and I were a little jealous!

Thursday - Nick and his dad golfed 18 holes, they brought home some awesome REAL mexican food...something that Michigan is lacking, but that's probably better for me because I would eat it all the time and get really fat. Pat (Nick's stepmom) took me and the kids to Target and Babies 'R' Us to get a few things for the kids. (Spoiled) Then that night Nick's grandparents drove up to visit with us. It was fun to see them with the grandkids, especially Josh because he was being sweet and was letting everyone hold him.

Friday - Beach! Maya had a blast and loved the water. Josh sat under an umbrella and hung out for a few hours. It was really hot where Nick's family lives but a little more comfortable by the beach so we had a good time. Later that day Maya went swimming in a little blow up pool that Gramma & Papa picked up for her. Man, she is really tan now!

Saturday - To Malibu to visit again with Nick's grandparents, Gramma Dotty & Papa Tony. Had a great Italian dinner and Gramma Dotty let me and Jenna raid her recipe box!! I got some really good ones that I am excited about trying. Maya went to the beach again with Gramma Pat and Aunt Gail.

Sunday - Stayed home and relaxed...I can't remember now but probably ate something really good.

Monday - Went to the beach in the morning and then Nick and I went on a date that night. What did we do? Eat of course. We had Mexican food, not a surprise again.

Tuesday - In the morning we went to the Pacific Aquarium in Long Beach. Way nice aquarium, I'd like to go back sometime when it isn't so hot. Afterwards we walked around this little boardwalk to try and find something to eat. We ate at a place called Gladstone's...Maya tried calamari for the first time and it was pretty hilarious to watch her down a few pieces of it. She is so adventurous!

Wednesday - Can't remember now...I think we shopped again and the boys went golfing.

Thursday - Caught up on laundry and folding. Packed up to get ready for DISNEYLAND the next day. Nick also picked up a rental car this day so we could get around easily. Pat and I got a maanicure/pedicure and Maya got her nails painted when I got back because she saw my pink toes and got jealous!

Here are some cute pictures of our stay with Nick's family:
