Maya has been pestering us to go to the zoo ever since we had gorgeous 80 degree weather a few weeks ago. Yes, it was that warm in Michigan in MARCH! However, it has cooled down quite a bit since then. On Saturday morning we were going to try and make our way up there for a few hours, but of course it was grey and cold out. She was happy that we decided to go to the Henry Ford Museum instead though. It was a fun day with the family!
One of my favorite parts was when we were checking out a race car display and Josh said, "Hey, guys? Why don't these race cars have eyes on them?" He is a little obsessed with Cars and Cars 2!! It was super cute and funny.
Checking out the huge train set.
Sadly, I didn't take too many pictures that day. It was kind of a quick trip but we had much needed family time because Nick has been so busy at work lately and we haven't seen much of him.
Today I ended up taking the kids to the zoo myself and we had a great time. My pinched nerve has been feeling a lot better and my energy level has been up, so I wanted to take advantage of it.
The penguin house! One of our favorite places at the zoo. (P.S. Josh desperately needs a new baseball hat!)
Maya used some of her Christmas money to buy these binoculars. The first few days after she got them we found her looking through our front window INTO the windows of our neighbors' homes. Ooops! She was so cute checking out all of the animals at the zoo with them, though. The polar bears were awesome! I have never seen them up so close.
This is when we were looking at the "mean" monkeys. My kids think they are mean because last summer when they were eating granola bars by the window one of the monkeys practically broke through the glass to try and get their food! (I think they are really the Lion Monkeys) Anyway, there was a huge group of people looking at them with us when Josh suddenly yelled, "Wow mom! That monkey has a big wiener!!!" Oh boy! There were some chuckles behind us for sure. I told him, "No Josh, that's his tail." He responded, "Why?" Love what kids come up with at this age!
My cuties with the camels.
We had a great day but I was reminded when we got home why Josh shouldn't skip his nap often. Wow, he was a real stinker! I'm so thankful I can be home with these two sweet kids and spend so much time with them.
