I have loved all of the time I’ve spent with this little girl lately. Our city’s school district recently announced that next year they are switching from half-day Kindergarten to full-day. I was so bummed when I heard the news. That means she will be gone from 9am-4pm EVERY DAY! What am I going to do without her around? She makes me laugh all the time and is constantly playing and pretending around the house. I'm just so thankful we decided to do Young Fives to give her, and us, an extra year. We’re going to have to make this an awesome summer before she starts school in the fall!
Today I went to her school’s Purple Parade, which they have every April to honor the ‘Month of the Child’. She was the special helper today so she also got to help hold her class sign at the front of the line. She looked so cute and excited!
She has been saying such funny things lately, here are a few:
"Mom...I know dad has a Ford Focus now, but what did he have before? I think it was a Ford Confusion, but I'm not sure." (Ford Fusion)
After she found out that Josh had played with some of her toys while she was at school she said, "Mom! I am counting on YOU. You need to keep an eye on Joshie and make sure he does not get into my things. Can you do that?"
She always says "pupost" instead of "supposed to". So when she gets all worked up she'll say, "JOSH! You are not pupost to do it that way! You are pupost to do it this way..." One of those funny things that are the best in person!
"Mom, I have a great idea! Do you think sometime before I grow up we could make lemon pie? Because I 'sawed' you bought some lemons and they're in the fridge."
"I can't wait to go to the 'carnibal' soon!" (Carnival)
She is constantly saying cute and funny things! We love having her in our home. Last week during Spring Break we met up with some school friends for a play date at the park. After playing for awhile and eating lunch we decided to go over to the lake nearby and feed the ducks and geese. I had a huge bag of stale bread that I was handing out to the kids. Maya came over for one more piece and noticed it was the last one. Without any prompting from me, she quickly went over to her friends and announced it was the last piece and that she would be sharing a little piece of hers with everyone. It was one of those moments that made my heart so incredibly happy. I wanted to cry it made me so proud!
Also, we got a package in the mail around Easter time and there were quite a few goodies that Josh couldn't have because of his milk allergy. Maya could see that he was getting discouraged and, without a word, ran quickly to her room to get a few candies from her stash that she knew he could enjoy. She can be so, so sweet and thoughtful sometimes!
Her most recent obsession is to become a "Fashion Girl". (Designer) A few weeks ago it was an astronaut, which she would still love to be. She loves talking about the Solar System. Anyway, she created all of these different pieces for her fashion line then displayed them neatly using her cork board. It's hard to tell, but some of the drawings are extremely detailed! I was very impressed with what she came up with.
Speaking of drawings, yesterday one of her drawings had me in tears laughing. During the day I had asked her to clean her room. She completely freaked out and was on the ground crying. I warned her a few times that if she didn't pick up I would take away something that she loved and she would have to work to get it back. She didn't think I was serious and kept it up until I finally took away 3 of her stuffed animals. (A bunny and 2 kitties, I think.) So she cleaned for a good amount of time and I gave the animals back. When Nick got home from work we had to run a few places so she decided to bring her notebook and marker along and draw a few pictures. She handed them to me and I immediately knew what this one was all about! Notice how evil I look while holding all 3 animals, and how she is innocently lying on the floor. Too funny!
I am including another picture because of how big she drew me. I guess I do feel larger than a house these days! At least she only tells me what she thinks of me through her pictures, and not verbally. :)

She is such a sweet girl! I love when she comes to say hi to Molly at church! She is SO sweet to just love her as a friend even though she's a few years older :)
Tara, that makes me so happy to hear that you cherish spending time with maya and that your sad that she's going to be doing full time :)
