Mother's Day weekend
I want to blog about Utah, but thought it would be better to start with what we did over the weekend instead. It makes me feel a lot less overwhelmed!
We got home from our trip on Tuesday night. The kids had such a hard time saying goodbye to my parents but they were excited to see their dad at the airport. While we were away Nick painted Maya’s room and put together the kids’ bunk beds for them. I thought that he would stop there but he went above and beyond! Maya was the first to see her new room and she came running out yelling for Josh to come check it out. She was so excited! I walked in and immediately started crying. Nick had ordered the quilts and personalized pillowcases that I showed him, got them new sheets, a new mattress for Maya, toy storage cubes, a cool wicker toy chest, and little lights and shelves for the kids to put little knick knacks on by their beds. I was so happy, relieved, and thankful for all that he did! What an amazing guy!
I wanted to get a picture of their room without Maya lying on the bed but she has been in this spot for most of the week! She loves sleeping on the top bunk.
These pictures aren't that great, but you get the idea. I LOVE the calm paint color and had no problem saying goodbye to the Big Bird yellow we've had for 3 years!!! We want to get a surf board and some ocean art work to hang on the walls and stick a rug in there too. I love it!
On Saturday Josh went to his very first birthday party. He had fun, but he was being pretty shy. I think he would have opened up more if I hadn’t been there. While we were at the party Nick and Maya went Mother’s Day shopping for me. They are too sweet! Then we met up after lunch and headed to Greenfield Village to see…….THOMAS THE TRAIN! Josh has been counting down the days to see Thomas since March when we found out he was coming. We already have a membership to the village but still had to pay $10 each to ride on Thomas. What a rip off! It was the same train we normally ride for free but they put Thomas in the front. Oh well. The kids had fun and there were tons of free activities to do after the train ride. The best part was after we rode on the train we ran up front so I could take a couple of pictures of the kids as Thomas went by. As the train moved closer to us we noticed his eyes were moving from side to side. I think this freaked Josh out because he started taking steps AWAY from Thomas. It was so funny!
Waiting in line for Thomas. He's almost here!
Climbing trees at the Village.
Makes me sad how big J looks here.
Mother’s Day was wonderful. The kids slept in until after 8am, which meant we did too! I had requested Costco muffins for breakfast and I also got some orange juice and yogurt. Maya included fruit snacks and suckers on my breakfast tray, too. She even brought in a little garbage can so I had a place to throw away trash and wouldn’t have to get out of bed. It’s so fun to see the kids get excited to spoil me! We had a lazy morning and then went to church. After that, Nick went to work making a great dinner of BBQ chicken, baked potatoes, cauliflower, and salad. For dessert we had cupcakes. They went all out this year! It felt nice to be appreciated. For gifts I got a pedicure on Friday night and a beautiful hanging flower basket for the front yard. I love my family and I love being a mom to these cute kids, plus one more on her way!
Playing outside while dad is BBQ'ing
Those eyelashes kill me! He is such a handsome little guy.
How can I forget the after-dinner entertainment? Maya planned a little Mother's Day Parade, snacks, and fireworks we had leftover from last summer. She is a little OCD about planning stuff so she talked about all of the details of the party ALL DAY LONG. I love her.
