Mackinac Island

Last Friday we headed about 4.5 hours north for a mini-vacation before the baby comes. It was awesome! It was nice and cool and there was so much to see and do. I wish we could have stayed longer and that I wasn't 36 weeks pregnant. It was interesting staying in the same hotel room. The first night was fine. Everyone slept through the night and we were well rested in the morning. The next night was a different story...Maya couldn't sleep because Nick was snoring so loud, and she kept scooting super close to me. Josh kept sitting up in bed and would scream randomly, or talk in his sleep and wake everyone. I couldn't sleep because my body was sore and uncomfortable, and I am up going to the bathroom a million times a night now! Anyway, glad we only had to do that 2 nights. We got to our hotel Friday night and explored the grounds near where we were staying. Then we got suited up and got in the "heated" pool. (It was really the coldest pool I have ever been in!) For dinner we went to a cute restaurant called Mackinac Grill, it was right on the lake. Josh peed his pants and complained about everything, and Maya threw a huge fit because she wanted to sit by Nick at dinner. Oh the joys of dealing with tired kids!
The Mackinac Bridge. Maya was so excited when we finally got to this part of our trip. Her class spent a lot of time talking about the bridge. She kept saying, "Josh! We are on the Mackinac Bridge! Can you believe we are on the bridge? This bridge is awesome!" It was really cute.
Roadtrip!!
This is the beach right near our hotel. It was kind of rocky, but perfect for exploring for awhile. Nick and I were looking at our vacation pictures and started cracking up when we saw this picture because Josh looks like a little monster, which he was the entire weekend! At least he's cute though.
We stayed in a city called St. Ignace. The island right behind Maya is Mackinac. Poor girl. Looks like she never has her hair done.
This picture pretty much sums up our beach vacations. Nick and Maya are always the first to go out farther into the water and Josh and I stay close to the beach. Can you see Nick way behind Josh? He belongs near the beach!
Our little fish.
After dinner we walked down a little boardwalk area that had a cool lighthouse and great views of the lake.
Josh refusing to look up for a picture.
The next morning we got up and headed over to Shepler's Ferry Company to take a ride to the island and go under the bridge. One of my favorite parts of the trip because Maya hummed the entire 30 minute trip. She didn't realize we were listening to her. She is always singing or humming and I love that about her.
I love this picture!
Motorized cars are not permitted on the island so you have to either walk, ride a bike, or take the horse-drawn carriage rides to look around. We opted for the carriage ride.
The Grand Hotel
Pretty view of the lake
An awesome place with tons of history. After Maya allowed us 30 whole minutes to relax after looking around all day, we headed to a sandy beach to let the kids play.
We had a very memorable trip! I love my little family so much.
