We took our first zoo trip on Friday and it was perfect! It was nice and breezy and the kids were so excited to go. The whole way there Josh kept saying, "see nanimals mommy? See nanimals?" He was so much more interested in everything this year. We splurged and took a train ride and, wow, Josh was in Heaven! I loved seeing him so excited. Maya was scared to get on it at first because she thought it was going to go really fast. We stayed for about 4 hours then headed home.
While we were at the zoo, Nick was en route to Tennessee for his big bike race that he has been training for. He ended up riding his bike for about 9.5 hours on Saturday (around 120 miles, I think). When he and his buddy Shane finished the race they showered, ate some dinner, and started their 9 hour drive home! He got home at 4:45am Sunday morning and was up with the rest of us at 7:45am to get ready for church. He definitely crashed when we got home and was out for a few hours. I'm so proud of him, but glad he's done! That same day was Father's Day and we had a nice time together. I made a pot of Nick's favorite pasta sauce and Italian sausages, a recipe passed down from his grandma. We had some cheesecake and cupcakes for dessert. As for presents, he had been wanting these sunglasses for his race so he ordered his own gift and got it a few days early. Easy for me! We also got him a new family game, Jenga, and the kids went crazy making all sorts of art projects for him. We had a great day! He is a great dad and cares so much about his kids, and works so hard for the family.
All of the artwork from the kids.
It was sad to be away from my dad again on another Father's Day. I only got to speak with him for a few minutes because he was at work. I'm very thankful for him and for all that he sacrificed so that us kids could have such a good life. I miss him so much!
I wanted to share a cute story about Josh. On Saturday we were outside hanging out, Josh was sitting on my lap and being really snuggly, he looked up at me, put his chubby hands on my cheeks and said, "Mommy? You happy mommy? You happy?" I told him yes and he gave me a huge hug. He's such a sweet boy. Now he asks everybody if they're happy too. I was listening to him playing with his little Mickey Mouse figurine and he was asking Mickey if he was happy. Love that little guy.
Yesterday we had one of our trees removed from the front yard. It was constantly dropping dead branches and has been horrible for our grass. It was a pretty cool process to watch and the kids were entertained all day - so thank you for that tree company!
